DIY FLOOR IN THE GARAGE
Are you building or renovating a garage? Are you a do-it-yourselfer with a passion for your own project or a person looking for an unpretentious renovation?
DIY floor in the garage is a topic that interests a lot of people and many of them become our satisfied customers. Fortelock PVC tiles are unique in their properties and ease of installation and meet all requirements for a garage floor.
Where to start? By choosing the right floor.
Consider the following factors when choosing a garage floor:
Purpose of the garage
If you use the garage for parking vehicles, the floor should be strong enough to resist mechanical damage. If you use your garage as a workshop or warehouse, resistance to chemicals and oils may be more important. In both cases, we recommend the Fortelock Industry floor, which can withstand the impact of heavier objects and short-term exposure to chemicals.
Material
There are many materials that are used for garage floors, including concrete, epoxy coatings, tiles, vinyl, laminate, and wood or durable PVC. Each material has its advantages and disadvantages, but PVC garage tiles meet most requirements.
Durability
The garage floor should be resistant to mechanical damage, chemicals and oils. As we have already mentioned, the Fortelock Industry tiles are highly durable. However, if they are still locally damaged, it is easy to replace only the damaged part with a new one.
Maintenance
The garage floor should be easy to maintain and clean, especially if it is used for parking vehicles. Therefore, it is advisable to choose PVC tiles that are easy to maintain. They do not leave grease stains and do not crumble like concrete floors. Find out more about Fortelock floor cleaning in our video. Cleaners can be found in our complementary assortment.
Price
Choosing a garage floor can also be influenced by price. Some materials are cheaper than others but may be less durable or less aesthetic. For others, the floor needs to be installed by a professional. With PVC tiles you can do the installation yourself without having to invest additional costs for a craftsman.
Appearance
The appearance of the garage floor is related to its purpose. For some people it plays an insignificant role, for others the garage belongs among the rooms in the house. PVC tiles offer the possibility of combining different colours and offer a modern and atypical design. Use the Visualiser to visualise the Fortelock floor in your garage.
Consider these factors when choosing a floor for your garage and consult our experts if you don’t know which floor is best for you.
What next? We will tell you how to make the DIY floor in your garage:
- Prepare all the necessary tools and materials – tape measure, cutting knife, heat gun, glue or fixing tape if necessary, and flooring, skirting boards, ramps and corners.
- Measure the size of the garage and calculate the number of tiles needed according to the type you have chosen. Our Configurator will help you with the design.
- Prepare the base layer. It’s not difficult, just remove the larger irregularities with putty and get rid of the larger dirt and dust on the original surface.
- Think about your desired look. Make the pattern according to your needs and taste. Combine colours and divide the space into separate sections or highlight certain areas. Use original printing CUSTOM with your own graphics.
- Lay the floor tiles according to the instructions in the technical data sheet and the installation instructions. If the floor of your garage is exposed to the sun, tape the back of the floor. Do not forget to observe the expansion gaps around the perimeter of the floor.
- Finish the installation using skirting boards, ramps and corners.
- Don’t forget to remove all waste and tidy up the garage. For proper cleaning, take inspiration from our cleaning video or article.
